Regional Transit District (RTD)
GIS Programming and Data Services

Supporting an existing ArcIMS environment designed to distribute GIS data agency-wide, Destiny added new tools, custom features, user friendly interfaces, and real-time data streaming illustrating current bus locations. Destiny’s contract supported a range of RTD services, departments, and GIS application development projects. Examples are below.

Services Provided / Tools Developed:

  • Geocoding to add new customer and other location data
  • Importing/exporting routes from transit scheduling software
(data services and programming to automate routine tasks)
  • Spatially verifying and controlling tabular addressing
(data services and programming to integrate various functions)
  • Programming to track and stream real-time bus location data
(integrating and automating GPS and GIS data workflows)
  • Programming to optimize emergency response planning and implementation
  • Implementation support deploying ArcSDE to store, manage, and load route data
  • Implementation support developing and deploying a new ArcIMS system to view and serve data via the intranet
  • Providing technical support and representing RTD at DRCOGS and metro-area data development and data sharing projects
  • Developing or providing data to inter-agency and contractor data sharing agreements

SE Corridor Public Information Website
Delivering vital information to the community, Destiny supported the development of a public information website illustrating various aspects of the SE Corridor Assessment. The website includes GIS-based map features and information outlining TREX construction, enhancements, light rail, and new stations. The website was developed using the ArcIMS ArcMap extension.

Using GIS to Site New Facilities
To help identify suitable locations for new RTD facilities, Destiny provided GIS and related services to analyze demographic, property, crime, and traffic data to identify locations that would maximize ridership (evaluating proximity to population centers and high traffic), minimize environmental impact (assessing historic background conditions), and ensure a safe ride (evaluating crime statistics and other risks).
